Committee to Review Gezira Scheme Performance, Formed

The Cabinet announced the formation of a committee to review the performance of the Gezira Scheme and evaluate the administrative and technical situation to promote and develop the scheme.
The decision issued by the Acting Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Osman Hussein Osman set a maximum period of one month to submit the report from the decision issuance date.
The decision stated that the tasks and powers of the committee are to diagnose the current situation of the scheme in terms of production, productivity, administrative and financial performance, as well as technical performance, review Gezira Scheme Bill.
The decision said the committee should also make comments on the articles that arise from the scheme’s development, in addition to setting a development vision for the scheme’s advancement by increasing production, productivity, and operating efficiency in terms of identifying administrative, technical, and financial challenges and obstacles, besides reviewing the patterns followed in the agricultural cycle in the Gezira Scheme, and developing a vision for how the crop structure can be achieved.
The committee’s powers were to review all the information and documents it designated.
The committee is chaired by the Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and comprise in its membership the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Irrigation, the Ministry of Labor, the representative of the General Secretariat of the Cabinet, the representative of the Ministry of Justice, the Director of the Accounts Office of the Ministry of Finance, the Director of Internal Audit, the representative of the Gezira State, the representative of the Economic Security Authority of the General Intelligence Service as well as the representative of agricultural research and representative of the Agricultural Bank.
