A Rare Statue of Vizier of Psamtik I in Egyptian Museum

A unique statue of the Vizier Ness-Ba-Kashuti, who served King Psamtik I, the founder of the Twenty-Sixth Dynasty in ancient Egypt. This statue is considered one of the most beautiful sculptural works representing individuals in that prosperous era.
The statue shows the minister sitting in the position of a scribe, which is a common position in ancient Egyptian art. The minister wears a wig and a short kilt, and holds a papyrus scroll in his hands.
On the base of the statue, there are hieroglyphic inscriptions mentioning the minister’s name, title, and positions.
The statue is 80 cm high, 47 cm wide, and 47.5 cm deep.
The statue reflects the way ancient artists tried to imitate the ideals of Old Kingdom sculpture, characterized by a taut torso and calm features. The statue was found in eastern Thebes, near the Karnak Temple, one of the most important archaeological sites in Egypt.
