West Kordufan: Complaints about Liquidity shortage
Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah
People in Abu Zabad, a trade and crossing center in West Kordufan State, have complained of acute shortage of cash liquidity due to the cessation of the (Bankak) application, most used in the financial transfer process, because of the internet outage.
Traders and ordinary market goers revealed that they were exposed to a crushing wave of high prices in the prices of essential commodities during the past two weeks, as the price of a bag of raw onions has touched the ceiling unprecedented since the outbreak of war, reaching 180,000 pounds up from 130,000 pounds.
The price of a bag of sugar went up to between 105,000 to 110,000 pounds from the previous price of 80,000 pounds. The price of a bag of rice weighing twenty kilograms rose to 40,000 pounds, and the price of a bag of flour weighing twenty-five kilograms rose to 42,000 pounds. Traders attributed the sudden increase to the recent events of Gezira State, in addition to the interruption of communications networks that facilitate the financial transfer process.
