Pledges by Water Corporation to Khartoum Citizens

The Khartoum State Water Corporation has revealed that the ongoing war in Khartoum State since last April 15 has exacerbated the Corporation’s costs in operating and maintaining stations and underground wells, the shortage of spare parts, and the high prices of purification and sterilization materials due to the high dollar exchange rate.
The Director-General of the Corporation, Consultant Engineer Mohammad Ali Al-Ajab, said in a press release today (Wednesday) that the Authority, despite the current war conditions in the state, is working hard to provide water supply to citizens in populated areas and elsewhere, indicating that the Authority relies entirely on its resources obtained through the windows of the electricity company, pointing out that the Corporation lost all these revenues as a result of the cessation of the collection system through the electricity windows, indicating that the current tariff for water at all categories does not meet the requirements for operation and maintenance, purification materials, and workers’ wages. He said that the situation in its current form requires providing additional resources to cover the expected deficit, pointing out that workers in the stations and wells presented a good example of sacrifice and self-denial as they performed their duty with full dedication. He expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the state government and the Federal Ministry of Finance in overcoming the difficulties that the Corporation faced during the months of war, noting that the rights and entitlements of service and pension workers will work to address them as soon as the Corporation’s financial conditions improve.
