Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed that he will not fire the team’s coach, Xavi Hernandez, before the end of the current season, regardless of the results, indicating that Barcelona has not yet settled on his successor.
“I never thought about dismissing Xavi. We always wanted him as coach of Barcelona. We all felt that we had improved the team, but things went wrong.” Laporta said in statements published by the newspaper.

“Xavi told me that it was better for him to leave, that he was resigning and that he was giving up a year remaining on his contract. He said that with such conviction that we should listen to him. I told him if we had to fight with him, we would do that, but he said that he had thought about it.” He added. “There is a lot of pressure on him. I told him that I accept this formula – staying until June 30 – just because it is him.” He contiued.
“Xavi is an honest person. At first, I thought it was because of the defeat, but I saw that he had thought about the matter and reflected on it, and I thought it was the best way to improve, free the team, and free himself as well. I think this postponed resignation for him was the best for the club.” He continued. “I want Xavi to continue until the end of the season. It will depend on him. I will not sack him no matter what happens is not worth it. He deserves to be trusted.” He continued.
Regarding the next coach, he concluded his speech by saying that it is in Deco’s hands now. For me, I trust Xavi until the end of the season.
