The United Arab Emirates has said it is deeply concerned about escalating tensions in the El Fasher region of North Darfur and the threat they pose to Sudanese civilians. It expressed deep concern about reports of sexual violence against women and girls, the high risk of famine, and the continued suffering and displacement of thousands of civilians, especially children, women and the elderly.
In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on all armed factions, including the RSF and the Armed Forces, to end the fighting and return to dialogue. It called on all warring parties to comply with their obligations under international humanitarian law and to take immediate and decisive measures to ease tensions and avoid Sudan sliding into new levels of instability.
It called for strengthening the international humanitarian response and providing urgent relief to those in need in Sudan and neighboring countries.
It added: “We call on the Security Council to take the necessary measures to ensure an end to the conflict and safe and unimpeded access to humanitarian aid to all parts of Sudan.” It affirmed its firm position demanding an immediate ceasefire and a political solution to the crisis, and its support for the political process and efforts to achieve national consensus towards a civilian-led government”
