Nesta Returns to Coach Monza After 7 Weeks of Dismissal

Monza, the bottom team in Italy’s Serie A, announced on Monday the return of Alessandro Nesta to coach the team, following the dismissal of Salvatore Bocchetti after a heavy defeat on Sunday that left the club at the bottom of the standings.
Bocchetti replaced Nesta in December, signing a contract until June 2027, but the team had won only once in 7 league matches, with Sunday’s 5-1 loss to Lazio being their fourth consecutive defeat.
Monza also exited the Coppa Italia after a 4-0 loss to Bologna under Bocchetti’s leadership.
Nesta, the former Italy international and Lazio and Milan defender, will resume his role as Monza’s coach after 7 weeks of being dismissed.
Nesta first took charge of the team following the departure of coach Raffaele Palladino to Fiorentina at the end of last season. However, his first stint at managing a Serie A team ended prematurely, with Monza winning only once in their first 17 matches.
Monza, who have only won twice in the league this season, currently have 13 points from 24 matches and will host Lecce next Sunday.
