Ukraine: Russia launched drone attacks on Kyiv and Sumy

Ukrainian officials said on Monday that Russian drone attacks sparked a fire in the capital Kyiv, injured a woman, and caused damage to several houses in the city of Sumy in the northeastern part of the country.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko posted on Telegram that there were no reports of casualties from the attack, which started a fire in a non-residential building in the capital.

However, Ihor Klymenko, the governor of Sumy, said on Telegram that a 38-year-old woman was hospitalized after Russia launched drones at Sumy, the administrative center of the larger Sumy region.

He added that five homes were also damaged.

The full scope of the Russian attack, which occurred overnight in Ukraine, was not immediately known. No comments have been issued by Russia.

Both sides have accused each other of targeting civilians in the war that Russia started with a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. However, the conflict has claimed the lives of thousands of civilians, the vast majority of whom are Ukrainian.
