Germany: Prison Sentences for 3 Individuals Convicted of Supporting ISIS

The Higher Regional Court in Düsseldorf, western Germany, issued prison sentences for three individuals convicted of supporting the terrorist organization ISIS, according to the German news agency.

The court sentenced a Moroccan-German woman (26 years old) to three years and three months in prison, a German woman (35 years old) to two years and nine months, and her husband (35 years old) to three years and nine months.

The court stated that it had established that the defendants, between 2020 and 2021, had collected and transferred donations to support ISIS. These funds were mainly used to support women detained by the organization. It is believed that the 26-year-old woman collected more than 52,000 euros, while the couple collected more than 120,000 euros.

The 35-year-old woman admitted the charges, while the other two defendants acknowledged transferring the money but denied intentionally supporting ISIS.

The ruling is not yet in effect.

The trial of two other accused individuals had been separated earlier, and their sentences were issued previously. In August 2024, a 29-year-old Kosovar was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison, and a 22-year-old German woman was sentenced to two years with a suspended sentence.

The federal prosecutor had previously stated that the accused individuals transferred a total of 250,000 euros to the “terrorist organization” between 2020 and 2022 through numerous individual donations. The authorities arrested the defendants in the spring of 2023 after raids carried out on May 31, 2023, during which seven suspects were arrested in the states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Bremen.
