Sovereign Council Mourns Ali Gagarin

The Chairman and members of the Transitional Sovereign Council mourned the passing of Ambassador Dr. Haidar Hassan Haj Al-Sediq (Ali Gagarin), the former captain of Sudan’s national team and Al-Hilal Club, who passed away on Wednesday in Cairo, Egypt, after a brief illness, following a distinguished career in sports, diplomacy, and public service.

In a statement, the Sovereign Council said that by mourning him, they are mourning one of Sudan’s most prominent figures in sports, diplomacy, and public service. He was also one of Sudan’s football stars during its golden era and the most renowned striker for the national team in the 1970s. Additionally, he served as an ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he remained a model of dedication and commitment.

The statement concluded: “May Allah have mercy on the deceased, grant him His vast mercy, and provide patience and solace to his family, friends, and admirers. Indeed, we belong to Allah, and to Him, we shall return.”
