To the Joint Forces, We Raise the Turbans (We Do Not Wear Hats)

Amin Hassan Omar

The campaign targeting the joint forces of the Darfur movements that align with the army and the entire people is an unjust and unfair campaign, lacking both objectivity and wisdom. I do not say this because I believe the joint forces are free from all mistakes or sins — for I do not claim to be free from mistakes and sins myself. However, I have negotiated with these leaders for a decade and a half, and I know them well. Despite the war and conflict between us, there was always mutual respect.

Anyone seeking to liken them to Dagalo’s militia is unjust. Although they are an irregular force, they are neither looters nor plunderers. I have never heard that they attacked non-combatants, violated the honor of a free woman, or humiliated a dignified citizen. They have accepted integration into a unified army, and while there have been and still are disagreements between us — for disagreements among people are inevitable — this time is a time for unity, not division.

They have demonstrated honorable national stances in defending the homeland, earning them medals of honor rather than harsh words and insults. So, stop this, you all, and leave political disagreements for their proper time — for now, the entire time belongs to the nation, and every discordant voice is out of tune.
