Egypt’s Assistant Foreign Minister and envoy for Sudan, Ambassador Yasser Sorour, reaffirmed Cairo’s commitment to Sudan’s unity, stability, and the preservation of its state institutions.
Speaking at a consultative meeting organized by the Electronic Press Association and attended by Sudanese journalists at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, Sorour said Egypt supports a humanitarian truce and a ceasefire to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people and ensure the delivery of aid.
He noted that Egypt had chosen to take part in most initiatives concerning Sudan and to support efforts aimed at resolving the crisis and fostering Sudanese consensus, based on the deep historical ties between the two countries.
Sorour reiterated that Cairo backs initiatives that safeguard Sudan’s state institutions, saying that Egypt’s national security is directly linked to Sudan’s stability, which is crucial for both countries and the region.
He added that positive steps are underway to lift Sudan’s suspension from the African Union.
Sorour also highlighted Cairo’s ongoing engagement with the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Nations, and international partners concerning Sudan, emphasizing Egypt’s commitment to promoting stability.
