Umm Rawaba… Bad Humanitarian Conditions Due to the Militia

Report – Sudan Events

The Rapid Support Militia (RSF) has not settled in a city or region unless destruction, devastation, plundering and looting is the most prominent feature of its presence there. Khartoum, Gezira, South Darfur, West Darfur, Central Darfur are examples that witnessed horrific atrocities committed by the rebel militia in those states, among the areas in which they are present. The militia is in the city of Umm Rawaba, whose citizens are experiencing the worst days of their lives as a result of these violations.
Loot and plunder
The city of Umm Rawaba, located in North Kordofan State, is experiencing poor humanitarian conditions amid cautious calm among citizens who are living in a state of terror and fear.
Sources said, according to Al-Taghyeer, that movement inside the city’s large market is deteriorating, and most of the shops have become closed, with many basic materials lacking.
It explained that the market continued to witness greater stagnation after the army air bombing during the past few days, which made most of the merchants work inside the neighborhoods, away from the market.
According to Al-Taghyeer, eyewitnesses said that the city witnessed a lot of looting and robbery carried out by the RSF militia on motorcycles inside the neighborhoods.
Robberies and arrests
While an eyewitness from the city said that, the RSF sometimes raid homes and are active in stealing cars with the motive that they belong to members of the regular forces.
it also confirmed that the RSF are working to arrest citizens for the same motives until they later ask their families to pay a sum of money in order to release them.

Sources said that the road leading from the city to the city of Al-Obeid is somewhat the best road for travelers and harassment and looting usually occur.
They also went on to say that the road leading from the city to the Abbasiya area in South Kordofan has many problems facing travelers, especially young people, from the RSF.
They explained that these forces harass young men based on their appearance and accuse them of being affiliated with the Sudanese army, and sometimes the harassment leads to murder.
Targeting citizens
The intensity of the targeting of citizens with random arrests by the RSF inside the city increased after the army aircraft bombed their positions inside Umm Rawaba.
After months of ongoing fighting in the country, the city and its environs witnessed fierce battles that took place between the Sudanese army and the RSF.
Since August last year, the RSF have been controlling the city and the surrounding villages and other areas.
According to Al-Taghyeer follow-ups, the city was not spared from violations committed by the RSF, as they committed serious violations, including premeditated murder, theft, and occupation of civilian homes.
The city, known as the Bride of “Neem trees”, is an important commercial center and a large market for oilseeds and hibiscus. It is considered a crossroads of railway and land routes linking the states of Western Sudan and South Kordofan to Khartoum and the port of Port Sudan.
The area of the city of Umm Rawaba is about 24,610 square kilometers, and it is bordered to the south by the cities of Rashad and Delling, to the northwest by the cities of Al-Obeid and Bara, and to the west by the city of Al-Rahad.
