Prime Minister Dr. Kamal Idris issued an urgent appeal from the University of Khartoum to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, urging serious efforts to pressure the militia to lift the siege of El Fasher, in recognition of the dire humanitarian conditions faced by residents trapped for nearly two years.
On Thursday, Idris met with the University of Khartoum’s director, Professor Imad Eldin Al-Amin Taher Ardib, along with the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Ahmed Madwi Mousa, and several deans.
The Prime Minister pledged full material and logistical support to the University of Khartoum and other Sudanese universities to create a conducive environment for education. He emphasized that the government prioritizes rebuilding social cohesion alongside infrastructure, requiring collective effort and cooperation to lead the country to safety.
Idris highlighted the role of the Supreme National Committee for Post-War Reconstruction, chaired alternately by the heads of the University of Khartoum and the University of Medical Sciences and Technology, including leading academics and experts from various ministries. He assured that the committee would receive his full support in restoring social cohesion and carrying out reconstruction.
