Cabinet Reviews Energy Plan for Electricity and Oil Sectors

The Economic Development Sector of the Cabinet reviewed, during its meeting on Tuesday chaired by the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Gibril Ibrahim, the Ministry of Energy’s plan concerning the electricity and oil sectors.

Minister of Energy Engineer Moatasim Ibrahim Ahmed explained that the ministry’s plan aims to improve the efficiency of the national electricity grid and rehabilitate the Roseires, Sennar, Merowe, and Jebel Aulia dams to increase their power generation capacity. The plan also includes upgrading thermal power generation stations and expanding clean energy projects.

In addition, the plan предусматриes the expansion of the electricity interconnection project with the Arab Republic of Egypt, increasing the transmission capacity from 75 megawatts to 300 megawatts.

The plan also aims to modernize transmission networks in order to reduce technical losses and enhance the efficiency of electricity supply.

Regarding oil sector projects, the Minister of Energy stated that the plan seeks to attract investments in the petroleum sector by offering vacant oil blocks for investment and increasing production in existing oil fields. It also aims to operate the Khartoum Refinery at full capacity and expand storage facilities, contributing to the stability of petroleum supplies across the country.
