Chad Orders Its Army to Open Fire on Any Armed Groups Crossing from Sudan

Chad’s Minister of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Issak Malloua Jamous, announced that the military is prepared to open fire on any group attempting to violate the country’s borders. His remarks came during a meeting with the families of victims in the Chadian city of Tina, which witnessed a drone attack last Wednesday carried out by the Rapid Support Forces, resulting in the deaths of 17 civilians.

According to the official news agency in N’Djamena, Jamous—who also headed the government delegation to Tina—affirmed on Sunday that the security situation in the country is “fully under control,” ruling out any cause for concern and stressing that the area is safe.

Jamous stated: “The crisis is in Sudan. Anyone wishing to enter Chad as a civilian will be allowed entry and welcomed on humanitarian grounds. However, anyone carrying weapons must lay them down at the border and hand them over to the relevant authorities.”

He added: “As for those who intend otherwise, the directives I have issued to the army command are clear: the military is ready to open fire on any party attempting to violate our borders. President Mohamed Idriss Déby has tasked me with reassuring you that he is committed to safeguarding the borders and ensuring the safety of our citizens. The army here has been given full orders to protect the country.”
