Banks Postpone Farmers’ Debt Payments

Farmers in the River Nile State acknowledged the negative impact of the war on agricultural products, and stressed the need to resolve marketing problems to ensure continuity of production.
The head of the Agriculture Department, State’s Ministry of Agriculture, Salah Al- Mamoun , has underlined the impact of the war on the marketing of agricultural crops, particularly wheat, stressing that the farmers of Shendi and Al-Matama were greatly affected by the low prices due to the lack of a central market. This led many people to fail to pay debts to the commercial banks.
The Directors of the Bank of Sudan, the Farmer’s Commercial Bank, and the Agricultural Bank announced the postponement of farmer’s debt for this season in the state, and the financing of all insolvent and new farmers.
The Minister of Production and Economic Resources, Salah Ali, said during his address to the workshop on marketing issues for agricultural products (Saturday) that marketing problems are among theم outstanding problems and were complicated during the war, saying these challenges be urgently addressed.
For his part, the state’s Minister of Finance, Mahjoub Al-Sir, attributed the marketing problems to the lack of competition in products. He said that local production has become beyond the capacity of the local market, so it must be exported to the global market. He pointed out the importance of improving production for global competition. He further announced the opening of an export office in the state and spices exports launch.
