King Abdullah II of Jordan and President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan called today for the need to intensify work to achieve a ceasefire and ensure adequate and permanent access of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

King Abdullah and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed stressed, during their meeting at Basman Palace in Amman, Jordan, the necessity of intensifying work to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, protecting civilians and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to the people in the Gaza Strip adequately and permanently, according to Jordan’s Petra News Agency.

A statement issued by the Jordanian Royal Court said the two leaders warned of the repercussions of the continuation of the aggression on Gaza and the deterioration of the catastrophic humanitarian conditions there, added Petra.

They also reiterated their “full support for the brotherly Palestinian people in achieving their legitimate rights,” stressing that “launching a political process to reach a comprehensive and just settlement of the Palestinian issue on the basis of the two-state solution is the only way to restore security and stability in the region.”

Meanwhile, King Abdullah stressed the need for the international community to continue supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to enable it to provide its vital humanitarian services in accordance with its UN mandate, especially “in light of the tragic humanitarian situation in Gaza.”
