On Monday, the Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, received an official invitation from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to participate in the Extraordinary Arab Summit, which will be hosted in Cairo on February 27.
This came during his meeting with the Egyptian Ambassador to Sudan, Hani Salah, in the presence of Sudan’s Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Omar Issa.
In a press statement, Ambassador Hani Salah conveyed the greetings of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council. He stated that the meeting discussed shared regional and international issues of concern to both countries, emphasizing the ongoing coordination between them. He also noted that the discussion covered the Nile water issue, with Al-Burhan reaffirming Sudan’s support for Egypt in this matter and highlighting the continued coordination between the two nations on this crucial issue.
Additionally, the ambassador provided Al-Burhan with an update on the developments in bilateral relations between Sudan and Egypt. He mentioned that on February 23, the Political Consultation Committee between the two countries, chaired by their respective foreign ministers, will convene. This will be followed by a “2+2” meeting between the foreign and water resources ministers to coordinate on the vital Nile water file.
Ambassador Salah also conveyed Egypt’s appreciation for Sudan’s efforts in facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid through various newly established border crossings and airports. He emphasized that Egypt is closely following developments in Sudan due to the strong bonds of brotherhood between the two nations.
The meeting also touched on issues related to the national security of both countries. The ambassador further announced that a business forum for Egyptian and Sudanese entrepreneurs will be held in Port Sudan in April, adding that he requested Al-Burhan’s sponsorship of the event.
