Sudan Events – Agencies

The Governor of West Kordofan State, Major General (Ret.) Legal Expert Mohamed Adam Jaid, has pledged to overcome the challenges facing the state’s Ministry of Health, particularly in light of shortages in medical supplies, low incentives, and insufficient transportation and equipment. He emphasized coordination with the Federal Ministry of Health and the central government, represented by the Supreme Committee for the Treatment and Care of Karama Battle Wounded, the General Directorate of Emergency and Epidemic Control, and the General Directorate of Primary Healthcare, to enhance integration and advance the health sector in the state.

Jaid affirmed that the state’s Ministry of Health plays a crucial role in treating the wounded from the Karama Battle who seek medical care in the state’s facilities from both inside and outside the region, despite limited resources and medical supplies. He pointed out that the ministry’s role is no less important than that of the Ministry of Defense in managing military operations.

This came during his meeting today at his office in An Nuhud, the administrative capital of the state, where he received a performance report from the Ministry of Health and Social Development for the years 2023–2024. The meeting was attended by the Secretary-General of the state government and ministry officials.

The governor praised the efforts of the Ministry of Health in providing medical services despite the humanitarian challenges and complex working conditions. He stressed the need for support from relevant authorities to enable healthcare workers to carry out their mission effectively.

For his part, the Acting Minister and Director General of the Ministry of Health and Social Development in the state, Dr. Atef Abu Anja, stated that the meeting discussed the main challenges hindering the ministry’s work, along with proposed solutions and future plans for developing the health sector in the post-war phase.

Dr. Abu Anja revealed the governor and the state government’s commitment to meeting the ministry’s needs by categorizing solutions into urgent and long-term measures, with the majority of the state’s budget allocated to the health sector.

He added that there are plans to receive the “Al-Sayyad” mobile medical unit, which is expected to arrive in An Nuhud and Darfur states in the near future. This requires intensified efforts to prepare medical and healthcare services appropriately in the coming period, in line with the directives of the Governor of West Kordofan.
