The European Parliament is set to impose sanctions on the leader of the Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemetti), his deputy, Abdel-Rahim Dagalo, and the commander of the Sudanese Shield Forces, Abu Akila Kikil.
The Parliament called for a ceasefire and the resumption of the political process under the auspices of the African Union and IGAD.
It also called for the establishment of international safe zones where refugees, internally displaced persons, and survivors of sexual violence could seek medical care.
The Parliament strongly condemned the systematic rape of innocent people and called for the establishment of international mechanisms to investigate and document sexual violence in Sudan, with a focus on ensuring accountability for the perpetrators.
It renewed its call for the immediate cessation of all forms of violence and for all parties to the conflict to respect international humanitarian law.
