Fadwa Taha: (Heroic Bodies) : A Movie from depth of Sudanese society

Dr. Fadwa Ali Taha, Professor of Modern and Contemporary History, wrote on an impression of the screening of the movie “Heroic Bodies,” which was shown last week at the Cairo Opera House.
She wrote as a commentator: “On Thursday evening, we enjoyed watching the movie “Heroic Bodies” in the Creativity Cinema at the Cairo Opera House.
It was witnessed by a large audience that filled the hall. The film is written and directed by Sarah Suleiman, starring Aya Tariq, Yassin Raif, Ahmed Raif, and Aya Ahmed, and edited by Imad Maher.
It is the result of a lengthy research prepared by Sarah entitled “Body Politics in the Sudanese Feminist Movement.” The movie provided a detailed historical account of the period 1900-1971. “
Heroic Bodies” delves into the heart of Sudanese society and highlights the customs and traditions that violate women’s bodies, such as the practice of genital mutilation known as circumcision, mutilation, male-dominated society, etc. I was pleased to be among those interviewed by Sarah in my capacity as a professor of modern and contemporary Sudanese history.
The movie participated in several international festivals and won awards. The movie was followed by an interview with the director, conducted by film critic Shahinda Mohamed . And useful contributions from attendees.
